A Sacred Adventure

A Sacred Adventure is a course based on the teachings of The Summit Lighthouse. These follow an ancient wisdom tradition focused upon the ongoing communications between ordinary individuals and highly evolved beings who dwell in heavenly realms. These enlightened ones are called ascended masters and they work with us as teachers and healers to show the way.

Ascended masters were once ordinary people living on earth just as we do. Through many lifetimes of extraordinary devotion and striving, they ascended back to their divine source, reuniting with Spirit. However, certain masters have chosen to stay connected with the souls on earth to guide them on the path of soul development and self-transcendence, characteristics they themselves embody.  Together they are united in what is called the Great White Brotherhood. The term "white" has nothing to do with race, but refers to the tremendous white light these masters radiate. Some of their names will be familiar, others will be new, and introductions will be provided.

So, now you know where the wisdom of A Sacred Adventure ultimately comes from. How did it get into course form? The Summit Lighthouse follows the tradition that began with the Theosophical Society in the nineteenth century and continued into the twentieth century with the Agni Yoga Society, the I AM activity and the Bridge to Freedom.  It has the express purpose of publishing these ancient teachings and new revelations that will assist students in achieving the same victory the ascended masters have, that of achieving reunion with God.

Mark L. Prophet founded The Summit Lighthouse in 1958 under the direction of the Ascended Master El Morya. (Theosophists know El Morya as the Master M.)  Mark Prophet and his wife, Elizabeth Clare Prophet, served as the messengers for the Summit Lighthouse. Through these two messengers, the ascended masters have released tremendous teachings, which form the foundation of this course of study.

Mark and Elizabeth Prophet received the teachings of the ascended masters through what are called dictations.  Dictations are not the same as messages received by mediumship (channeling).  When receiving a dictation, a messenger raises his or her consciousness to the level of the Higher Self.  Simultaneously, the master lowers his or her vibration to that level so there is a meeting and blending of the two.  The master then directs what the messenger speaks. Numerous excerpts from the masters' dictations are included in this course as progressive revelation woven through the ancient wisdom they have given us through the centuries. Course Structure

A Sacred Adventure's first lesson explains your spiritual origin and the last explains your spiritual destiny.  In between, you will learn much about the factors that aid or impede our soul to get from our birth to our immortality. This course will also be an indispensable tool for learning more from our other books, courses, tapes and CDs.  Whether you continue on your spiritual journey with us or not, we believe that the insight you will gain from A Sacred Adventure will be a beacon for your soul's victory!

Each lesson begins with a basic teaching, complete with illustrations. Throughout the lessons are exercises that will help you embody and experience the reality of the knowledge you are learning.  At the conclusion of each lesson is a section entitled The Liberating Power of the Word. 

The power of the spoken Word is a key factor in your spiritual journey, and each lesson builds on the information given in the lesson before, offering more insight into why we believe in the power of the Word, with exercises to try this powerful form of prayer.  If you take this course online, you will be able to listen to audio files that correlate with each exercise and meditation. Your coursebook also has a CD with the same exercises. At the end of each lesson, you will also be provided Suggestions for Further Study, which offers books, audio and videotapes, movies, weblinks and more to supplement your lessons. The Seven Lessons

Course Objective: The purpose of this course is to prepare you to walk a step-by-step path to reunion with God by presenting the teachings of the ascended masters and the spiritual techniques they recommend.

Lesson One: Our Divine Origin. This lesson explains our beginning as spiritual beings, how we fit into the cosmic plan, our descent into the matter realm, our I AM presence [the divinity within] and an overview of the ultimate goal of our soul, the ascension.

Lesson Two: Contacting the Divinity Within. This lesson explains your spiritual makeup, including the I AM Presence, your Holy Christ Self, and your self in matter form.  You will learn how to listen to your higher self and let that higher self guide you though inner attunement. You will also learn about other aspects of your spiritual makeup, including the threefold flame in your heart.

Lesson Three: Living a Spiritual Life in a Material World. Understanding that we are spiritual beings does not always mean we feel "spiritual."  This highly practical lesson takes the knowledge from Lesson Two, your spiritual makeup, and explains how you can be a spiritual being even though you live in a material world. You will learn the specifics about how your spiritual aspects interrelate and function, and how the matter world affects them, positively and negatively. 

Lesson Four: Expanding the Flow of Light Within.The concept of "light" and your spiritual makeup is discussed. You will learn about how light flows within us, and how you can invoke light into your world on a daily basis. You will learn about the centers of light in your physical body, called chakras, and how the light in those chakras [or absence of it] will affect your consciousness and experience in the matter realm. You will learn about your aura, a forcefield of light around you, and how you can protect and expand it.  Perhaps most important, you will understand how the light in your body relates to the ascension, which is the ultimate goal of your soul. The ascension is explained in detail in Lesson Seven.

Lesson Five: Karma: Good, Bad and Balanced. Lesson Five probes the circumstances and history that have led us to where we are today as souls. You will learn how your free-will choices as a soul have affected, and will affect, your experience in the matter realm.  You will learn about how the Eastern concept of karma, the result of your free-will choices, relates to Western theology. And you will also learn ways to work on your personal karma, ways that can help you minimize the negative effects of your returning karma.

Lesson Six: Beyond the Veil: Past, Present and Future. This lesson explores the concept of reincarnation as a fundamental reality.  You will learn about the history of the belief in reincarnation worldwide.  And, just as lesson five explains how the eastern concept of karma fits into Christianity, you will learn how reincarnation, too, fits into western theology. A thorough explanation of the argument for reincarnation and the ramifications of its reality are discussed, including why we must reincarnate and how we ultimately may break this cycle of returning again and again into embodiment.

Lesson Seven: Ultimate Destiny—The Ascension. Lesson Seven in A Sacred Adventure is like the ideal final chapter of your life!  The ascension is what we should all be striving for.  What is the ascension?  How does it relate to the idea of going to heaven in Christian theology or experiencing Nirvana in Buddhism or Hinduism? In this lesson, you will learn about the process of the ascension, what it entails and how others before us have achieved this victory of immortality. Getting the Most from the Course

Keep a journal. This course is designed for use with a journal or notebook to record personal insight and reflection. You may wish to reserve one section in the journal for your experiences with the exercises, which are numbered for your convenience. You might also want a section for taking notes.

Begin at the beginning. The lessons in this course are progressive, building upon the information given in previous lessons. We feel you will gain the most from your sacred adventure if you start with Lesson One and go through them in sequence.

Take an active role. Active participation will improve your ability to comprehend the wisdom behind each lesson.  The exercises are designed to make the material you are learning practical and meaningful. Skipping them will eliminate a great deal of fun and omit a very important aspect of the course.

Study Tips

Pick a regular time to study and try to stick to it.  Establishing a regular study rhythm and allowing time in between study periods will maximize what you gain from the course.

Keep study periods short.  It has been scientifically proven that shorter study periods are the most efficient.  We recommend you study no more than one lesson at a time, and we also recommend reading lessons more than once and trying the exercises more than once before moving on to the next lesson.

Review the lessons.  If more than a few days go by between your studies, it's best to do a quick review of the material in the previous lesson before going on to the next one. This reinforces concepts and terms already presented in preparation for any new concepts in the next lesson. If you keep a thorough journal with notes on what you're learning, you might want to study it before proceeding. That way, you can revisit concepts in the way you personally interpreted them, which will aid in refreshing your memory.
