LET US CONSIDER: What is the Sangha of the Buddha?
The Sangha is defined as the congregation of the monks, the nuns, and lay devotees. These are the spiritual family of the Buddha--the Community which lives the Dharma, or the Teaching, of the Buddha. It is one of the Three Jewels in which the disciple takes refuge and therefore the disciple turns to for protection and aid.
WHY IS IT NECESSARY?
It is necessary to form a chalice for the Buddha and the Dharma and the Guru-chela relationship upon earth. One of the classic Buddhist teachings on the all-importance of the Three Jewels explains that the Buddha is the great physician, the Dharma is the remedy, and the Sangha is the nurse who administers the remedy.
